Our computer died today. Or I should say window, that overbearing, data eating, space hogging, microsoft whoreson Windows XP died today. AND IT TOOK ALL MY DATA WITH IT!!!! I know for most that this is a bad thing.
But I had years of PICTURES saved on my computer. Originals that I don't even OWN anymore. I'm just sick with it. Gods.... And all our tax information. Everything. All our websites, all my scanned sketches, because I always lose, or crimp them, show info, commission info.... Gods.
We tried to repair windows with the disc, but it wouldn't repair the missing config file so it had to be completely reloaded.
If you heard a noise reverberate outside, that was me screaming in absolute frustration.
:takes a deep breath:
Sorry for the rant guys. I just needed to vent. I'm too pissed to do artwork. I'm going to go watch zombies try to take over the world and stuff the snot out of dragons.

If you have not, you might still be able to go selvage the data on the hard-drive. If you go to someone who knows how to do that. I had to do something like that when I got a major infection and my computer died a while back. I got the content back on a few DVD's before I reinstalled my Windows XP. If you formated the hard-drive yet.
That saved my life.

Well, the data can be saved if you haven't formatted the HD yet.
If you have,
If you haven't,

If you don't format, and just reinstall your OS
ALL of the files should still be where they are.
If you did format, you likely lost all of your information. Even if the system crashes, it is still possible to recover the data with the right equipment.
So, the big question right now is, did you lose all of your data?

If you did its likely gone.
If you had taken the computer (or just the hard-drive unit) to a computer nerd, or a good PC parts store who know how to rip drives. you could have extracted all the files from the drive to a few DVD's before reformatting and reinstalling... If you used the windows install-disk, its very likely it would have erased everything from the disk before reinstalling windows again. as its the first step of the install-disk, formating, which basically clears the disk to reinstall.
The only thing you might be able to do is go to a specialist, and have them take a look for something, which is likely expensive and I can't promise that they will find anything after the disk is formatted. sorry.

Data is almost never destroyed completely.

However the only thing I did is reload Windows XP. I didn't do any specific reformatting, but I do know that to reload the windows it did get rid of windows. It said that I "might" lose the My Document files. I was trying to just have it repair windows. No luck there. This morning I couldn't access anything or get past the black screen of death.
