Embracing My Reflection-Final by stephanielynn Embracing My Reflection-Final by stephanielynn
Here is the final. I added their clothing and hair, then went back into the fur. Spots and some final fur detail were added then I colored the broom (which looks like it's seen better days.) That done I sat back and stared at it a while. Some of the values had to be adjusted so I darkend the green drape and added some shadows here and there. I touched up the fingers, added some shadow there and then added some reflected light. All in all a good weeks work.

The innate cruelty of the mirror if imagination: showing what can never be other than dreamt about and occasionally grieved over.

Have you ever felt that you were born into the wrong form? Have you ever thought you were different but didn't know how to express it? Those are the questions I get when I looke at this drawing.

Your details are wonderful. The values between light and dark are compelling and the I love the differing tone in blue between the human and anthro. Kind of makes me think that what's behind the mirror is her true self, her true color. Also, the folds in the dress are amazing! I've tried doing folds before and they're still tricky for me, but you just really make them flow on that dress. :-)

I don't know if you know this but the color green is usually represented with hope. I think the green behind the mirror represents the hope she holds for being who she really is. This is just a guess and/or suggestion, though.

Really well done after coming so far. I love humans and anthros together, and this one makes me want to be that much closer to them. Thank you very much!

Ye gods, this gets my imagination fired up! I have this idea for a Cinderella story in a world populated by both humans and anthros, but the humans are second-class citizens. Then, on the night of the royal ball, the humble scullery maid finds a magic mirror that lets her become the beautiful princess she's always seen herself as.

...anything close to what you were thinking?

This was a commission. The story we kind of came up with was that the human is trapped in her dark, dingy life. The mirror, shows the potental trapped within. The fact that the strong snowleopard image is reaching through to grasp the hand of the sorrow filled human self is where possibilities interconnect...

Which is a really wordy way of saying ...yes, kinda...

Really well done (once again :) )
Somehow the world in the reflection looks more alive than the "real" world...

I like her earring.

A beautiful concept, a cinderella story, and one that those of us with an outer human skin and something else in our hearts can understand all too well. You made another masterpiece here, and your commissioner had a fantastic thought. I love how you can take the image in our minds and do so much with it.

Beautiful! Just beautiful, it shows the real side of her persona. This pictures deserve a fav bigger than a castle.

This is a real rough (really really rough) for another commission. A broken spirited human servant girl is being given strength by her strong, beautiful snowleopard reflection in the mirror. Honestly, it's more complicated than that, but my hands are cramping to much to type.(Quoted Stephanielynn's original rough description)
There Ya Go ;)

But what is the meaning behind the girls tattered and ragged dress? She lives in poverty longing to escape to her vision's world?

Somehow I pictured a brunette. Don't know why. But this is lovely, and so emotional.

MOW! This is superb!! Excellent coloring and great concept. It makes me go wheee!! with super happy fun time. Haha. Cats are the best.
Aramis-Dagaz Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2006
Nicely done. There was a definite yet subtle change in the snow leopard's expression from rough to final, all for the better in my opinion. She has a "what's wrong, sweetie?" sort of expression, which fits the mood perfectly. I also like how you had them clasping hands/paws near the bottom, it's one of those details that makes you wonder about the situation in the piece. My guess is that it's more than a mere reflection than the piece initially implies.

This is a beautiful picture! The details are amazing [especially the furr], but I have to agree with ~dragoondestroyer and say that the girls face does look flat...or off in some way.

The line of her nose moved a little during the coloring. I've uploaded and edited version that Ialtered.

The girl's face looks...flat. I don't know how to describe it. I certainly couldn't have done any better. Everything else borders on perfect.
